Book 5: Calypso and the raft
Calypso—Ulysses Reaches Scheria on a Raft.
The gods meet again, and Zeus sends Hermes to tell the nymph Calypso that she must let Odysseus go. She does, and helps him to build a raft.
After many days at sea Poseidon sees him and raises a storm. The sea-goddess Ino gives him a veil to keep him afloat, and Athena calms the winds. Odysseus swims ashore on the island of Scheria, home of the Phaeacians.
