Book 10: Aeolus, giants and Circe
Aeolus, the Laestrygones, Circe.
Aeolus, keeper of the winds, gives Odysseus a bag with the winds tied in it. Within sight of Ithaca his men open it, thinking it holds treasure, and the storm drives them back.
The ships come to the land of the Laestrygonians, giants who throw rocks at the fleet and eat the men they catch. All the ships but Odysseus's are lost. On the island of Aeaea the sorceress Circe turns part of the crew into pigs. Odysseus, helped by a herb from Hermes, makes her restore them, and they stay a year. She then tells him he must visit the dead.
