Book 11 in short: The visit to the dead

Following Circe's instructions, Odysseus sails to the edge of the world and calls up the dead with offerings. The ghost of the sailor Elpenor asks for burial. The prophet Tiresias tells Odysseus what lies ahead, including the danger of the cattle of the Sun, and that he will reach home alone and find trouble there.

He speaks with the ghost of his mother, Anticlea, and with Agamemnon, who warns him to be careful on his return. He also meets Achilles and Ajax. The ghost of Ajax does not answer him.
