Yuddha Kanda
The bridge, the war, Ravana's death, Sita's fire ordeal and the return.
Rama and Sugriva's armies reach the sea. Ravana's brother Vibhishana urges Ravana to return Sita, is rebuked and leaves Lanka to join Rama. Some of Rama's allies doubt him, but Rama accepts him. With the help of the builder Nala, the monkeys build a bridge across the sea.
The armies cross and besiege Lanka. In the long war many on both sides fall. Rama and Lakshmana are struck down by Indrajit's weapons and revived. Ravana's brother Kumbhakarna is woken to fight and is killed by Rama.
Ravana's son Indrajit is killed by Lakshmana with Vibhishana's help. Ravana himself goes to battle. The duel between Rama and Ravana is long, and ends when Rama fires a divine weapon that kills him.
Rama has Vibhishana installed as king of Lanka. Sita is brought to Rama. In the Valmiki text, Rama speaks harshly of her, and Sita enters a fire to prove her purity. The fire god Agni returns her unharmed and declares her blameless. The scene has been read very differently in different traditions.
The fourteen years are ending. Rama, Sita and Lakshmana fly to Ayodhya in the aerial car Pushpaka, and Bharata welcomes them. Rama is crowned king.
