Chapter 1: The Old Sea-dog at the Admiral Benbow

Jim Hawkins, whose parents keep the Admiral Benbow inn, remembers the day an old seaman arrived and called himself 'the captain'. He drinks rum, sings sea songs, frightens the neighbours and pays Jim to watch for a one-legged sailor. When the doctor, Dr. Livesey, speaks sharply to him, the captain turns on him with a knife but is faced down.
