The Hispaniola sails and the voyage begins well. The mate, Mr. Arrow, drinks and is lost overboard, and the boatswain takes his place. Jim spends a lot of time in the galley with Silver and his parrot. One evening he climbs into an empty apple barrel for an apple and hears Silver speaking.
