Chapter 2: Black Dog Appears and Disappears

It is a bitter winter and Jim's father is dying. One January morning a sailor named Black Dog comes to the inn, and the captain goes pale at the sight of him. The two fight with cutlasses and Black Dog runs off wounded. The captain then collapses with a stroke, and Dr. Livesey warns him that rum will kill him.
